The Webcomic...
Subconscious began as a simple idea in the back of Zach's mind a long time ago. He dabbled in other interests before finally realizing that he could easily combine the visual and written mediums to realize his vision. And so, in late November of 2006, Subconscious was born. It was not long before the webcomic had a small following of a few people. And so, in order to appease the growing fanbase, the website was updated. Since the initial conception, the website has gone through several major chances, but it is the artistic style that has changed the most.

The initial art style was very random and unorganised, reminicient more of a child's artwork than that of a webcomic artists. (It's harder to draw with a mouse than one would expect.) As time passed, his art style evolved and grew into something much cleaner and easier to see. Obviously, the comic is not done--not in the least. Subconscious is a constantly changing work of art, altering itself from page to page, always for the better.

Or at least, let's hope it's always for the better. =)
The Characters...
Michael Richard O'Connor
Michael Richard O'Connor

Michael's tale begins with a car crash which put him into a coma. Unfortunately, the result of this coma is his consciousness being dumped into his subconscious as a character. This is his tale as he transverses his subconscious in search of a way back to his consciousness.

Michael is quite smart but chooses not to show it. Or it could just be that the transition from conscious to subconscious rattled his brain enough to make him lose that intelligence. Which of these is true, none will ever know. He currently sports blue eyes and a stock black stickfigure body.
Timothy Walker
Timothy Walker

Timothy Walker is Michael's former imaginary friend. However, when Michael stopped utilizing his services, he was set free to do as he would inside Michael's subconscious. Fortunately, Tim is a friendly guy who would never abuse that power over Michael's subconscious.

Tim is very friendly and intelligent. He serves as the stability to offset Michael's unpredictable whims and wishes. Not much is known about him beyond what Michael has already seen, but from what can be guessed, Tim is an avid traveller inside Michael's subconscious. Tim currently sports white eyes and a stock black stickfigure body.
The Keeper
The Keeper

The Keeper is basically the Librarian of the Library of Michael's Subconscious. He knows where every piece of information is in the library, even if he doesn't know what the fact is offhand. From all accounts, the Keeper has been around for just as long as the Library and has worked with it from the ground up.

The Keeper is a friendly guy with a wry sense of humor, even if he doesn't express it at all times. He appears as some sort of glowing, orbish thing that really has no explanation. He is currently the only character in the Subconscious universe (that has been shown) to have eyebrows, a mouth, pupils, and only a head. How he grabs onto things is a mystery all in and of itself.
The Locations...
The Blank Canvas
The Blank Canvas

This area in Michael's Subconscious is called the Blank Canvas due to it's properties. This zone acts as a blank canvas for Michael's imagination and subconcious to draw on and with and create new areas and zones. Due to these specific properties, this zone has some unique abilities. First, it allows for passage between any two sections of the Subconscious. Second, one can create anything within this zone. Third, this zone is never altered. Any changes to it result in a new realm in the subconscious, even if it exists only temporarily.

This zone is difficult to access, however, for most denizens of the subconscious. Timothy is one of the few to have accessed it.
The Library of the Subconscious
The Library of the Subconscious

The Library of the Subconscious is a self-altering zone that expands and grows according to the amount of information that is put into it. Unlike the memory, this library is effecively limitless and boundryless. Thus, it retains every piece of information that ever passes through the consciousness or the subconscious.

The library organizes information according to days. Each floor of the library represents a single day in the life of Michael. The snapshot of the library shown at left shows two floors, thus it shows the representation of two days of Michael's existence.

The library is designed in the shape of a square with a hole in the middle with the information and the books organized around it.

Free-Minded Fridays!
Rules for Free-Minded Fridays.
  1. The comic must be clean. As in no swearing or lewd images.
  2. The comic must adhere to the Subconscious list of characters and places. Nothing new, nothing weird. That's my job. However, you can portray what I have already designed in any form you want.
  3. It MUST be submitted as a .png or .jpg file to zw.subconscious (at) gmail.com with the title "Free-Minded Fridays." Any other forms of submission will be ignored.
  4. If you want me to put your own personal newspost up on the site to accompany your webcomic, please attach that in a .txt format with the email.
  5. If you want me to cite you and give you credit, put your name in there somewhere too. If not, don't worry.
  6. There are no limits on the entries, but please keep them somewhat nice looking. I don't want something that looks like you dragged it through a junkyard then spit on it.
  7. I have the right to not put your comic on my website, but odds are I will put whatever you send me up on the site with a few words of thanks.
Tips and Tricks for Free-Minded Fridays.
  1. When attempting to draw any of the scenes or characters in Subconscious, remember that everything in the comic is simplistically complicated. So, if you can keep it simple while making it look complicated, you've probably got it.
  2. All of the scenes are in simple colors with only a few exceptions. Blacks, greys, whites, reds, blues, etc are key to the color scheme.
  3. Tim always has white eyes, and Michael always has blue eyes. Always.
  4. FMF is usually when I have some form of joke or some form of contemplative thought. If you comic has either, you're better off. It'll be even better if you can attach a newspost with your thoughts on a subject.
